Jessica H. – Adrenal Gland Cyst
I was diagnosed with a right adrenal gland cyst, and my doctor referred me to Dr. Suh. I am very pleased with the work Dr. Suh did and the results after my robotic surgery. Everything was excellent, and I am very happy with the outcome. Dr. Suh is an outstanding doctor, and I would like to thank him and his fantastic team. Thank you to everyone at the Mount Sinai Endocrine Surgery Adrenal Program!
Robert A. – Great Experience with Cushing's
I had my adrenal gland removed robotically by Dr. Suh for the treatment of Cushing Syndrome. I cannot thank Dr. Suh and all the nurses, residents, and doctors at Mount Sinai enough. My surgical experience was great. I was attended to in the nicest way possible by everyone involved.
The surgery itself was relatively uneventful, with some manageable pain afterward that was easily relieved by non-narcotic medication. I went home after two days and spent a week recovering. As a 65-year-old triathlete training for Ironman competitions, I was back to swimming, biking, and running on a limited basis just two weeks post-surgery.
The team at Mount Sinai is not only fantastic but incredibly nice. I cannot recommend them enough.
Janet D. – Fully Recovered After Adrenal Adenoma
On March 7, 2016, I found myself in the Emergency Room with my 28-year-old son, who was having concerning symptoms. After hospitalization and testing, he was diagnosed with an adrenal adenoma resulting in symptoms consistent with Conn's Syndrome.
We were worried, but we were assured that although it is uncommon in his age group, the treatment is surgical. After some research, we learned about Mount Sinai Hospital's Adrenal Center and scheduled an appointment.
Our son met with Dr. Hyunsuk Suh the following week. As a parent, the apprehension can be overwhelming when your child has an unusual health issue. However, when we met Dr. Suh, we felt that our son was in the right hands. He explained the tumor diagnosis in detail, including additional testing and what to expect from the robotic surgery, in which he has extensive experience.
From the initial diagnosis to the surgery on May 18, 2016, our family experienced caring and sincere concern from everyone we encountered at Mount Sinai. Dr. Suh and the entire team exhibited a high level of expertise that reassured us throughout the process.
It has now been eight weeks since our son's surgery, and he has fully recovered. His lab tests and blood pressure are normal, and he feels great. From start to finish, our family’s experience could not have been smoother. We are truly thankful to Dr. Suh for his exceptional skill and care.
Adrenal Tumor Patient – Positive Experience
Dr. Hyunsuk Suh is a world-class surgeon. I had an adrenal tumor on my right kidney, and he successfully removed it through four small incisions. From my first visit, Dr. Suh was compassionate and always available for questions. He even operated on a day he usually does not perform surgeries.
He assured me from the beginning about what to expect and showed me the robotic system he would use for the operation. He truly is a master at his craft. Rest assured, you will receive the best care. I rate him a million plus. Thank you, Dr. Suh, for all you have done for me and my family. You are the Michael Jordan of surgeons. God bless you for everything you have done to restore me to being whole.
Karen J. – Extremely Grateful for the Professionalism
I had a large goiter on my right thyroid and underwent a robotic-assisted thyroidectomy using the BABA (Bilateral Axillo-Breast Approach) technique on October 26, 2016. After my first pregnancy, a right thyroid nodule was found and monitored. Following my second pregnancy, it increased in size, and surgical intervention was recommended.
I consulted with my ENT and asked for recommendations, specifically, “If you had what I have, who would you go to?” She immediately recommended Dr. Inabnet. During my consultation, Dr. Inabnet was patient-centered, addressing my concerns and providing reassurance. Initially, we planned a traditional neck incision due to the nodule's size, but I later learned I was a candidate for the BABA procedure.
The surgery took longer than expected, lasting several hours. Dr. Suh performed the robotic-assisted right-sided thyroidectomy, preserving my left thyroid, which means I won’t need to take thyroid hormone supplements post-surgery. Post-op, I woke up without drains or a neck incision, just in a sports bra with pressure dressings.
I felt minimal pain and did not require pain medications. After surgery, I was discharged within 24 hours. I followed post-op care instructions and felt significantly better within a week. I am extremely grateful for the professionalism and care provided by Dr. Suh and his team. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing thyroid surgery!
Tatyana – Reliable Hands
I recently had surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital. My GP recommended Mount Sinai as the best clinic in the city. I made an appointment with Dr. Hyunsuk Suh, and my first impression was that he is very professional and experienced. More importantly, he is very attentive to his patients.
It’s worth mentioning that Dr. Suh is an assistant professor of surgery. What I liked most was that he discussed every detail with me and suggested ways to treat my disease. It was easy for me to decide to go ahead with the procedure he recommended—robotic surgery to avoid scarring on my neck.
My surgery went well, and I returned home the same day, experiencing no pain except when I swallowed. I returned to work 10 days later. It’s been 2 months since my surgery, and I feel great. My scars—four incisions (two underarms and two on the nipples)—are barely visible. I am a healthy and happy person.
I would recommend Dr. Hyunsuk Suh of Mount Sinai to anyone. You will be in good and reliable hands. I hope my feedback is helpful. I wish you all good luck!
LR – Successful Thyroid Surgery and Quick Recovery
I had an 8-centimeter right thyroid gland removed at Mount Sinai Beth Israel by Dr. Suh in the summer of 2016. Dr. Suh was very patient and calmed my worries by providing clear answers to all my questions—big and small.
The incision on my neck was very small considering the size of the thyroid gland, and it is almost invisible now, three months after the surgery. I experienced pain for only two days post-op. I highly recommend Dr. Suh for thyroid surgery.
34 Year Old Female – Became My HERO!
I am a 34-year-old female who had been monitored for approximately 2 years at Montefiore. My doctor recommended thyroid surgery from our first visit when the biopsy results indicated that my thyroid was benign, but the size of the nodule on my right side was a concern. I initially refused to undergo surgery due to concerns about my appearance, not wanting a visible scar on my neck since I didn't have cancer or any severe medical condition.
After agreeing to follow up every 6 months to monitor the growth of the mass, my doctor persisted in recommending surgery. During our discussions about alternatives, she introduced the new technique called Robotic Thyroid Surgery or robotic thyroidectomy. After our fourth visit, she referred me to Dr. Randall Owen at Mt. Sinai for a second opinion since I was still hesitant about surgery.
Upon meeting Dr. Owen, he informed me that the nodule had continued to grow and referred me to Dr. Hyunsuk Suh for his expertise in robotic surgery. Dr. Suh became my HERO! He alleviated my fears and gave me HOPE. While I was initially anxious about the size of the nodule, I left my third consultation with a scheduled surgery date. Dr. Suh took the time to explain every detail, including the pros and cons of surgery.
On the day of my surgery, everything went as planned. I had four tiny incisions: two around the areola of each breast and one under each arm, which are almost unrecognizable because of their small size. I experienced no pain in my throat aside from the post-surgery discomfort. I slept well the night of the surgery and was fully functional just days later.
At my best friend's birthday party that Saturday, no one noticed anything unusual, except for my voice being slightly low, which Dr. Suh assured me was normal. My voice returned fully within a week, and I was ready to return to work soon after. Dr. Suh and his staff provided exceptional care and guidance throughout my treatment. I am grateful to have had Dr. Suh as my surgeon!
Marie JCD - Goiter Surgery After 20 Years
For the last 20 years, I had been debating the idea of having surgery for my goiter, which was getting bigger every day. I even went for surgery about 16 years ago but declined on the day of the procedure.
When I met Dr. Suh this past November, he made me feel so comfortable that I had no second thoughts about going through with the surgery. The surgery was performed at Mount Sinai Hospital, where I stayed for two days. The nurses and doctors provided amazing care. In just a week after the surgery, I noticed that my breathing had improved significantly. The best part of my recovery is that I have started singing again.
I used to sing beautifully, but for the past 10 years, I had lost the joy of singing in church or anywhere else. Thanks to Dr. Suh, I have found my voice again.
Sunita C. – Excellent Explanations
I had my thyroidectomy done at Mount Sinai Beth Israel by Dr. Suh. He was great, and the surgery went well as expected. Dr. Suh provided excellent explanations about the surgery and answered all my questions, which gave me great satisfaction and trust in him to perform my first-ever surgery.
Dr. Suh was professional, concerned, and thoughtful throughout the process. He thoroughly explained the procedure and addressed all our worries. I would definitely recommend Dr. Suh to anyone who asks. The staff and medical team were also great. Thank you, Dr. Suh and the medical team at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.
Tanya – CRNA Praises BABA
Dr. Suh performed a robotic-assisted right-sided thyroidectomy using the BABA (Bilateral Axillo-Breast Approach) technique. This involved four small incisions: two around the areola of each breast and one under each armpit.
The surgery went well, and I was able to return home the same day with no drains and no neck incision. I only experienced minimal pain, mostly from the endotracheal tube used for general anesthesia. I returned to work 9 days after surgery, and the incisions are barely visible.
Dr. Suh is extremely professional, experienced, and attentive to his patients. He took the time to discuss every detail of the procedure with me, explaining the pros and cons thoroughly. His humble demeanor and expertise made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process.
I highly recommend Dr. Suh and the Mount Sinai Thyroid Program. Not only is he the only surgeon performing this cosmetic thyroid surgery in the U.S., but he is also a caring and skilled professional.
Heather M. – Expertise and Attention to Detail
At 19, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, Hashimoto’s disease, and thyroid nodules. By age 22, my thyroid was significantly enlarged, and my endocrinologist recommended removal. Although my biopsy was benign, I delayed surgery because I was determined to pursue a scarless option.
When I learned of Dr. Hyunsuk Suh and the robotic procedure offered at Mount Sinai, I chose to wait until my insurance was accepted. Even though my thyroid was slowly strangling me, I remained committed to avoiding a neck scar.
Finally, at age 40, Dr. Suh performed my robotic thyroidectomy. The procedure, which usually takes three hours, took four due to my thyroid’s fibrotic condition. I experienced minimal pain, barely any bruising, and was in and out of the hospital on the same day.
Dr. Suh’s expertise and attention to detail made my surgery a complete success. He is a truly wonderful surgeon, and I’m forever grateful for his care. With no visible scar, I feel confident in my appearance and health. Dr. Suh and the team at Mount Sinai are pioneers, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
Young SC – Flawless Thyroid Surgery Experience
When I first went to Dr. Hyunsuk Suh, I was scared and worried about the possibility of thyroid cancer after my nodule grew to 5 cm. Dr. Suh instantly made me feel comfortable, giving his undivided attention to my concerns and carefully examining my thyroid.
Unlike other doctors I’ve seen, Dr. Suh genuinely cared and took every measure to make me feel at ease. All necessary tests were conducted quickly, and surgery was promptly scheduled. Knowing I was in the capable hands of Dr. Suh and his team calmed my fears.
The surgery went flawlessly. My recovery was incredibly fast, taking only a few days. I couldn’t have asked for a better doctor and team to help me through such a frightening experience. My family and I are deeply grateful to Dr. Suh and Mount Sinai.
Dana S. – Forever Grateful
Last year, shortly after my birthday, I was diagnosed with papillary cancer on the left side of my thyroid. Finding the right surgeon was very important to my family and me. My parents and I didn’t want me to have a visible scar on my neck. After watching a video on YouTube of a scarless thyroid procedure, we scheduled a consultation with Dr. Inabnet.
Unfortunately, I was not a candidate for the scarless procedure due to the size of my cancer. Dr. Inabnet performed a traditional thyroidectomy at Mount Sinai Hospital. He was very patient, calmed my worries, and did an excellent job—my scar is barely noticeable and almost invisible now. After my first surgery, I underwent radioactive iodine therapy.
Nine months later, a follow-up revealed a positive lymph node that required surgery. This time, I was a candidate for the BABA robotic procedure. Dr. Hyunsuk Suh explained that I would be the first patient in the United States to undergo this surgery for lymph node removal. Despite initial hesitation, Dr. Suh’s thorough answers to my questions put me at ease.
The surgery was a success. It involved no bruising, minimal pain, and a quick recovery. I am forever grateful to Dr. Suh, Dr. Inabnet, and the team at Mount Sinai for their pioneering efforts and impeccable care.
Sarah B. – I Could Not Be Happier
After discovering a 3 cm lump on my left thyroid, I met with Dr. Hyunsuk Suh to discuss my options. I was nervous about the size of the lump and the risk that it could be cancerous (even though my biopsy came back benign). He was extremely thorough in walking me through my options, one of which was the BABA robotic scarless surgery.
As someone prone to keloid scars and with fair skin, I didn’t want a large scar on my neck. After much consideration and discussion with both Dr. Suh and my family, I decided to undergo the BABA surgery. It was my first operation, and I was nervous, but Dr. Suh reassured me, and knowing he was performing the surgery gave me comfort.
Now, about a week and a half post-op, I could not be happier with the results. The surgery went smoothly, as did my recovery, and now I only have a few tiny, hidden scars to show for it. I cannot thank Dr. Suh enough for recommending and performing this procedure!
Jasmine – One of the Best Doctors
My name is Jasmine, and I’ve been a patient of Dr. Suh since February of this year. I was referred to him because a 5 cm nodule with cancer was found on the right side of my thyroid. From the moment I walked into Dr. Suh’s office, he treated my case as a priority.
Dr. Suh and his team provided outstanding care. The offices were always comfortable and clean, and the receptionists were professional yet compassionate. Between appointments, Dr. Suh answered my questions promptly and always put my mind at ease.
Dr. Suh was the first doctor I’ve ever had who focused on wellness of the mind, body, and soul. He reassured me that I would be okay, even with thyroid cancer. His expertise in robotic surgery was unparalleled, and he ensured my procedure would avoid keloid formation and be the best option for me.
Dr. Suh is hands-down one of the best doctors I’ve seen in my 27 years of life. He is intelligent, compassionate, and outstanding in every way. His calm demeanor, positivity, attentiveness, and personal approach made my experience truly extraordinary. I’m so grateful to have found him!
Marianne L. – Fabulous Recovery
Dr. Hyunsuk Suh performed parathyroid and thyroid surgery on my left side. The nodule measured 5 cm, and as Dr. Suh found no spreading of additional nodules, he was able to remove only the left side of my thyroid. My thyroid should now function properly without further medication.
Dr. Suh has an outstanding bedside manner and gave me great confidence and a sense of well-being. My recovery has been fabulous, and I highly recommend Dr. Suh and his wonderful nurse, Dawn, for making my experience excellent.
Sandra S. – Excellent Hands
I recently had a thyroidectomy performed by Dr. Suh. I cannot say enough about the kind, courteous, and professional treatment I received from him and his staff.
My surgery went well, and he explained everything to me both before and after the procedure. He was always available to answer my questions and concerns, and his staff was equally attentive. I had a great experience and am happy to say that my recovery is going extremely well, thanks to Dr. Suh.
I highly recommend him to anyone undergoing thyroid surgery. You will be in excellent hands.
Crescenciana D. – Professional and Kind
I recently had thyroid surgery performed by Dr. Suh, and it went very well. The procedure was efficient, and everything turned out great. Dr. Suh and his staff were very professional and kind to me.
Yolanda C. – Very Kind
Dr. Suh is a great surgeon, and I highly recommend him. He is very kind to his patients and scheduled my surgery quickly.
Minnie – Unsurpassed and World-Class
I am a 51-year-old female who underwent partial thyroidectomy by Dr. Suh’s BABA technique. During an ENT visit 11 years ago, an enlarged thyroid was discovered by accident. Since then, it had been monitored through ultrasound and two FNABs (Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsies). Two years ago, during preadmission testing for knee surgery, a large mass causing tracheal deviation was found in my chest radiograph in the neck region, consistent with the enlarged thyroid.
Due to the size of the mass, I had difficulty sleeping for many years and was advised to have it removed. I had been researching procedures to avoid neck scars, and it felt like God answered my prayers when I found Dr. Suh. He is one of the few thyroid surgeons in the United States who performs robotic thyroid surgery—or the BABA procedure—to avoid neck scars.
During the initial consultation, I realized how kind, compassionate, and down-to-earth he was, and I felt I was in good hands. He removed a 7 cm diameter and 70 g mass from my right thyroid through the axillary approach while preserving my left thyroid so that I would not need to take thyroid supplements. The mass was later confirmed as a benign uninodular goiter.
Dr. Suh’s skills as a thyroid surgeon are unsurpassed and world-class. I have no neck scars, my trachea is back to the correct position, and I’m sleeping better—back to my normal self in under a week. Thank you to Dr. Suh and your team. You are the BEST!
Theresa M. – Quick With Minimal Pain
After discovering a nodule on my thyroid gland in July 2017 and subsequent biopsies indicating a need for surgery, I sought a doctor who would perform thyroid lobectomy under local anesthesia. I found Dr. Suh at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, who was willing to accommodate my request.
Dr. Suh spent a long time listening to my concerns and explained the procedure thoroughly. On the day of surgery, Dr. Suh and the anesthesiologist, Dr. Ness, worked together to create a plan that allowed me to be awake during the entire surgery, with the option to request analgesia and sedation as needed.
The surgery was successful, and my recovery was quick with minimal pain. Dr. Suh called me at home the evening after surgery to check on me. His surgical expertise is evident in my quick recovery and minimal scarring.
I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Suh, Dr. Ness, and Mt. Sinai to anyone in need of thyroid surgery. The entire experience, from the caring nursing staff to the respectful treatment I received, was the most positive surgical experience I've ever had.
Catherine R. – Large Thyroid Tumor
I had surgery by Dr. Suh in March 2018 for a large thyroid tumor on my neck that was growing into my chest area. I went to Dr. Suh for a second opinion. My original surgeon said he would have to crack my chest to remove the tumor. Dr. Suh was able to remove the tumor without cracking my chest and with minimal recovery time.
Vittoria L. – Successful BABA Surgery
I am a 31-year-old female who noticed a lump on the right side of my neck last spring. I found out that it was a nodule on my thyroid and had to be removed. I was very concerned about having a scar on my neck, since I am so young and have a long, skinny neck. Therefore, I researched alternate types of surgery and decided upon Dr. Suh and the BABA surgery.
This surgery entails four incisions being made, one under each armpit and on the side of each nipple. Although it sounded intense and scary, I was immediately reassured by Dr. Suh's expertise, professionalism, and caring nature. He took the time to explain the procedure to my husband and me, and was very understanding of my concerns.
The surgery took about 3 hours. Recovery was initially uncomfortable due to the tight bra that must be worn, but I felt much better after removing it. I was able to resume normal activities, including yoga and running, after one month.
Eight months post-surgery, the scars on my nipples have completely faded, and there is just a very slight mark under my armpits. I am extremely happy with the outcome and do not regret choosing this type of surgery. Dr. Suh is an extremely talented surgeon and did an absolutely remarkable job. I would highly recommend this surgery to anyone looking to avoid scarring on the neck. Thanks again to Dr. Suh and his team!
Deborah H. – I Feel 100% Better
Dr. Hyunsuk Suh is an excellent surgeon who truly cares about his patients. Upon arriving at Mt. Sinai, I was really scared about having surgery to remove my parathyroid gland, but once Dr. Suh came into the room and greeted me so warmly, I forgot I was scared. He took the time to hear all of my concerns and assured me that everything would be alright. He explained the procedure and what I should expect. Today, I am happy to say that I feel 100% better, and Dr. Suh is the reason why. Not only because he did an excellent job removing the parathyroid, but because I know he really cares about his patients and wants them to get better. I would recommend Dr. Suh and Mt. Sinai to anyone looking for excellent care.
Neal R. – Recovered Exceptionally Well
I went for a physical, and the bloodwork showed a dangerously high calcium level. I was referred to Dr. Suh. When I contacted his office and spoke to Dawn, she was extremely helpful and got me an appointment within three days.
When I met Dr. Suh, he was professional, concerned, and thoughtful. He read my bloodwork results and did a sonogram of my neck. He didn’t like what he saw and showed my wife and me the images. Needless to say, we were both extremely worried.
Dr. Suh explained everything in detail, sent me for additional tests immediately, and contacted me personally with the results. I am a professional trumpet player, and he even reached out to ensure I avoided any unnecessary strain before surgery.
Dr. Suh removed a large tumor from my parathyroid and half of my thyroid gland. The tumor was removed in one sealed piece to avoid complications. I was released the same day and have recovered exceptionally well.
Dr. Suh kept in close contact with me, addressing any concerns personally. Thanks to him, my calcium levels and hormones are now normal. Dr. Suh is a kind, caring, and skilled surgeon, and I am extremely grateful for everything he has done for me and my family.
Ellen S. – My Symptoms Have Gone Away
For at least 5 years, I had so many symptoms that were being misdiagnosed. I thought living in NYC and getting older (I’m only in my late 30s) were my problems. When I was finally diagnosed, I was scared as I had never had surgery before.
Dr. Suh and the endocrine surgery team at Mount Sinai Beth Israel performed a successful parathyroid tumor resection through a tiny scar. After surgery, I couldn’t believe I had been living life with such a dark cloud over me for so many years.
My symptoms have gone away, I have so much more energy, and life is so much better. I’m no longer tired all the time, sore, or depressed. I’m so much happier, and life is so much easier.
Jaspal Rana – A Thorough Clinician
Dr. Hyunsuk Suh is such an amazing doctor. He sat with me and thoroughly, with compassion, explained the entire procedure, keeping my family and me at ease before and after the surgery.
He is a thorough clinician, and his expertise is second to none. I can’t thank him enough for all his help. Thank you, Dr. Suh!
Alla D. – I Felt At Ease
I had my parathyroid surgery on 06/30/2017. Dr. Hyunsuk Suh and his staff were amazing! When I went in for the surgery, I was so afraid, but he and his team made me feel so comfortable that, in no time, I felt at ease.
It has been a month since my surgery, and my scar has healed well. I can’t express how happy and thankful I am to have had the best surgeon, Dr. Hyunsuk Suh. I regret not knowing about him earlier. Now, I am full of energy without headaches, pain, or soreness. Just a few hours after my surgery, I was able to eat and drink everything.
Dr. Suh and his team did a great job. I would also like to recognize Dawn, who took excellent care of me over the phone. She was polite, knowledgeable, and concerned about all my questions. Thank you to everyone, and God bless!
Dianne P. – Successful Parathyroid Tumor Removal
I would like to thank Dr. Suh very much. He was polite, kind, and had a wonderful attitude. He was easy to talk to and very respectful.
My surgery on 9/7/17 was a complete success. Dr. Suh removed a very large tumor as well as my parathyroid gland. He made me feel very comfortable before and after the surgery. He personally called me and promised a small incision on my neck, and he kept his word. I feel great. Thank you, Dr. Suh!
Joan J. – Restored Energy and Well-Being
Dr. Suh performed my parathyroid surgery in August 2017. Before surgery, he explained everything to me and made me feel at ease about the procedure. His calm demeanor made me feel comfortable during my office visits and on the day of surgery.
It’s been 6 months, and my symptoms, such as exhaustion, restless sleep, and memory loss, have all gone away since my surgery. I would highly recommend him to anyone considering surgery
Seeking G. – Answered All My Questions
He was very nice. He answered all my questions very thoroughly. He even predicted questions I didn't have. He let me know all the risks, benefits, pros, and cons of every single option I had and any path stemming from my current state. I felt completely ready to tackle my thyroid nodule, whether it was benign and could stay in or if it was cancerous and needed to be completely removed, and felt like I understood every single option for surgery and preserving my voice. I just felt really confident he was great.
Irish – Minimal Scarring with Excellent Care
I had this done last year by Dr. Suh in Tampa. He was great, and I would recommend it to people. I have some minimal scars on my inner armpit and can’t even tell where the ones on my chest were. I was sore and bruised for about two weeks, but he was so great. He also removed two parathyroids and 8 lymph nodes. I recommend Dr. Suh based on my experience. I don’t have a chicken neck either. I was 38 when I had the surgery. Hope this helps.
Anonymous - Amazing Recovery with Dr. Suh
11 days post-op and had Dr. Suh as well! He's amazing!I had a robotic thyroidectomy 11 days ago performed by Dr. Suh... Honestly, I was doing everyday activities a few days after surgery (with the exception of heavy lifting). I feel better than I have in several years. I would highly recommend it. The incisions in my armpits and breasts are healing very nicely too.
PS – Smooth Robotic Thyroid Surgery
I had my robotic surgery done by Dr. Suh for a full thyroid removal in February this year... Everything went smoother than I ever could have imagined. Recovery was a breeze (1 week)... No scar either!
PP – Excellent BABA Approach
I highly recommend seeking out a high-volume surgeon (a surgeon who performs many thyroid surgeries) to give yourself the best odds. Your surgery is one of the most important parts of your cancer treatment. If you’re asking, I highly recommend Dr. Suh. Here’s my experience:
During our wait, the anesthesiologist Dr. Ung, the nurse anesthetist April, my surgery RN, and Dr. Suh himself, at separate times, came to discuss in detail what was going to happen, their thoughts, plans, and answer any questions about my surgery, recovery, or expectations. It was excellent.
Dr. Suh noticed my wife sitting in the waiting area and personally went to check on me again, telling her that I was doing well, which reassured her.
Dr. Suh came to check on me; he is so kind and intelligent. I’m a software engineer and meet a lot of smart people, and Dr. Suh might be one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. He’s also super nice. Later, he came to tell me how the procedure went and answered any questions. It was excellent.
Later that night, Dr. Suh personally called me on his cellphone to ask how I was. The next morning at 6 AM, he texted to check on me. He answered all my questions and told me to call him.
I would highly recommend the BABA robotic thyroidectomy with Dr. Suh at The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery. This was the most top-notch hospital, doctor, and surgery experience I’ve ever had. I was fine. I’d also recommend basically any surgeon who works here for open “traditional” thyroidectomy. They’re all pedigreed and do thyroid surgeries all day, every day.
Dr. Suh is an extremely humble and kind person in real life. You honestly want a surgeon who performs this many thyroidectomies; it's ideal.
Anonymous – Robotic Thyroid Surgery Success
I am a 34-year-old female who was being monitored for approximately 2 years over at Montefiore. My doctor recommended thyroid surgery during our initial visit, as the thyroid was benign after the biopsy results, but the size of my nodule on the right side was of concern.
I refused to do the surgery as I was overly concerned about my appearance, especially at my young age. I did not want to have a scar on my neck, especially since I did not have cancer or any other severe medical condition. My doctor and I agreed to follow up every 6 months to monitor the growth of the mass. At each appointment, she insisted on surgery, but I kept refusing.
We eventually spoke about other alternatives, and that’s when she mentioned there was a new technique evolving, called robotic thyroid surgery or robotic thyroidectomy. After our fourth visit, she referred me to Dr. Randall Owen of Mount Sinai for a second opinion, as I was still refusing thyroid surgery.
Upon meeting Dr. Owen, he advised me that the nodule had continued to grow and referred me to Dr. Hyunsuk Suh for his experience in robotic surgery. Dr. Suh is my HERO! He saved me from having self-esteem issues and gave me HOPE.
During our initial visit, he explained that my nodule was almost at the maximum growth size to safely operate. I went in for my third opinion and left with a scheduled surgery date. Dr. Suh is an amazing individual. He took his time to explain every detail, step by step, along with the pros and cons of surgery and addressed every possible question anyone could think of.
On the day of my surgery, everything went as planned. I was left with 4 extremely tiny incisions—2 around the areola of each breast and 1 under each armpit. The incisions are unrecognizable because Dr. Suh made them so small and hid them within natural folds.
I experienced no throat pain beyond the norm of post-surgery discomfort. I slept like a baby the night of my surgery and was fully functional to go out later that same week. I had no limitations or soreness in my arms and had full range of motion.
I had my surgery on a Wednesday and was able to celebrate my best friend’s birthday that Saturday. Nobody noticed anything different, aside from the lower volume of my voice, which Dr. Suh informed me was normal. My voice returned to its full strength within a week, and I was ready to return to work shortly after.
Dr. Suh and his staff did an impeccable job in my treatment phase and guided me every step of the way. I am truly happy with my results today and feel blessed to have been introduced to Dr. Suh!
Parathyroid Gland Patient – Truly Cares
Dr. Hyunsuk Suh is an excellent surgeon who truly cares about his patients. Upon arriving at Mount Sinai, I was really scared about having surgery to remove my parathyroid gland, but once Dr. Suh came into the room and greeted me so warmly, I forgot I was scared.
He took the time to hear all of my concerns and assured me that everything would be all right. He explained the procedure and what I should expect. Today, I am happy to say that I feel 100% better, and Dr. Suh is the reason why. Not only because he did an excellent job at removing the parathyroid, but because I know he really cares about his patients and wants them to get better.
I would recommend Dr. Suh and Mount Sinai to anyone looking for excellent care.
Trumpet Player – Parathyroid Surgery Success
I went for a physical, and the bloodwork showed a dangerously high calcium level. I was referred to Dr. Suh. When I contacted his office and spoke to Dawn, she was extremely helpful. She got me an appointment within three days.
When I met Dr. Suh, he was professional, concerned, and thoughtful. He read my bloodwork results and did a sonogram of my neck. He didn’t like what he saw and showed my wife and me the images from the sonogram. Needless to say, we were both extremely worried. We discussed the symptoms of a parathyroid tumor, and I never knew I had a problem. I had never even heard of a parathyroid.
Dr. Suh spoke to both of us and assured us that everything would be fine. We discussed what was going on for quite a while. He immediately sent me upstairs to get a sonogram of my neck, thyroid, and parathyroid and a biopsy of my parathyroid. Dr. Suh contacted me when he got the test results and knew I was going to work on Saturday evening (I am a professional trumpet player).
My calcium levels had risen. He suggested that I take it easy and made me an appointment for the hospital on Monday. I heeded his advice and did not work on Saturday evening. He contacted me again on Sunday to make sure I was all right. When I arrived at the hospital, I was admitted, and Dr. Suh's team began hydrating me and worked on lowering my calcium levels before surgery.
In three days, I was in surgery. Dr. Suh saw me in the morning and reassured me that everything would be OK. Dr. Suh removed an extremely large tumor from my parathyroid and half of my thyroid gland. He was able to take out the tumor in one sealed piece so that nothing harmful could leak into my neck. I was released from the hospital that evening.
Dr. Suh kept in contact with me and allowed me to contact him regularly to discuss any problems or difficulties I was having. He was simply amazing. Dr. Suh is available to answer any questions and always gets back to you quickly and with the right answer.
I went for my third postoperative care visit to see Dr. Suh on March 3, 2016. Everything is good, and my calcium levels and hormones are normal. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Suh and his staff for helping me through this. Dr. Suh is a caring, thoughtful, and special person, and I could never thank him enough for what he has done for me and my family.
Anonymous – Successful Robotic Thyroid Surgery
... I made an appointment with Dr. Hyunsuk Suh, and my very first impression was that he is very professional and experienced. More importantly, he is very attentive to his patients. It’s worth mentioning that Dr. Suh is an assistant professor of surgery.
What I liked the most was the fact that he discussed every little detail with me and suggested ways to treat my disease, so it was easy for me to decide and go for the procedure he recommended—robotic surgery to avoid having a scar on my neck. My surgery went well, and I returned home the same day with no pain except when I swallowed. I returned to work 10 days later.
It’s been 2 months since my surgery, and I feel great. My scars—4 incisions (2 underarms and 2 on nipples)—are barely visible. I am a healthy and happy person. I would recommend Dr. Hyunsuk Suh of Mount Sinai to anyone. You will be in very good and reliable hands. I hope my feedback is helpful. I wish you all good luck.
Papillary Cancer Patient – Groundbreaking
Last year, a couple of months after my birthday, I was diagnosed with papillary cancer on the left side of my thyroid. Finding the right surgeon was very important to my family and me. My parents and I didn't want me to have a visible scar in the center of my neck. They found a video on YouTube of a thyroid procedure that was done without scarring. We immediately went to see Dr. Inabnet to have this type of procedure done. However, I was not a candidate for this surgery because the cancer was too big. Dr. Inabnet performed a regular thyroidectomy. He was very patient with me and calmed my worries.
The surgery was done at Mount Sinai Hospital. I stayed there for one night and two days. The nurses and doctors were amazing and took very good care of me. I was very worried about my scar because, as a student, I was scared people would notice and ask questions. The cut on my neck was very small considering the size of the thyroid gland and is almost invisible now. I was very happy with the work that he did. He truly is a wonderful person and surgeon. The recovery process was very quick, and I only had to miss about a week of school.
Three months after surgery, I had to get radioactive iodine therapy to kill the remaining microscopic cancer cells. Nine months after surgery, I went for a checkup and a sonogram. There was a positive lymph node found on the upper left side of my neck. I was told I had to get another surgery done. This time, I was a candidate for the BABA procedure. I was very happy that I was a candidate for this because, if I wasn’t, then the scar on my neck would have been much longer and more visible (even though now it barely shows and can easily be covered with makeup).
When I spoke to Dr. Suh, he told me that I would be the very first patient in the United States to undergo this surgery (to take out a few positive lymph nodes through this procedure). I was a little hesitant, but he calmed my worries and answered all my questions very thoroughly. He had done this procedure in Korea, though not in the United States. My mother came into the OR with me (to kiss me before I went under anesthesia), and when she saw the robot, she was fascinated, as was I. Dr. Inabnet and Dr. Suh performed the surgery.
I was very thankful to Dr. Inabnet for being there every step of the way. The surgery took about four hours. I was in the hospital for two nights and three days. I had no bruising and very minimal pain, which was treated with painkillers. I had to wear a specific bra with pads all over my chest for about a week. The interns and residents checked up on me every day and made sure I was doing well. Dr. Suh came to check up on me. He had an hour-long conversation with my mother and me at the hospital. This really showed his care for me and his humbleness. He truly is a wonderful person and surgeon.
The surgery was a success; he removed the positive lymph nodes. I was scared that I would have to have the radioactive iodine treatment again. However, he told me that I didn’t need to, which was a big relief for me. I could not be any happier with Dr. Suh, Dr. Inabnet, and their team for taking the time and attention to detail in making my surgery a success. I am forever grateful to Dr. Suh, Dr. Inabnet, and Mount Sinai Hospital for bringing this new procedure from Korea and making it a success. Let me know if you’d like me to continue with the rest of the reviews or reformat anything further!
Neck Lump – Absolutely Remarkable Job
I am a 31-year-old female and noticed a lump on the right side of my neck last spring. I found out that it was a nodule on my thyroid and had to be removed. I was very concerned about having a scar on my neck since I am so young and have a long, skinny neck. Therefore, I researched alternate types of surgery. I decided upon Dr. Suh and the BABA surgery. This surgery entails four incisions being made, one under each armpit and on the side of each nipple. Although it sounded a bit intense and scary, I was immediately reassured by Dr. Suh's expertise in this surgery and his professionalism and caring nature. He really took the time to speak to my husband and me about how the surgery is carried out and was very understanding of my concerns. I read a few testimonials about this type of surgery, and it seemed like the best approach for me since I wanted to avoid a scar on my neck.
The surgery took about 3 hours, as the nodule was very far up in my neck. I took two weeks off of work to fully recover. The first few days of recovery were uncomfortable because the bra you have to wear is extremely tight. But as soon as I could take it off, I felt much better. I was stiff for a week, but I slowly got my movement back and was able to play shuffleboard during week two! (That requires a lot of arm movement.) I felt completely comfortable doing yoga and running after one month. The glue on my scars came off during week three. It was very strange to see the scars, but at my three-month post-op, they were looking much better.
It has now been 8 months since my surgery, and the scars on my nipples have completely faded, with just a very slight mark under my armpits. I continue to put vitamin E on my scars about once a week to help with healing. I am extremely happy with the outcome of my surgery and do not regret for a second doing this type of surgery. Dr. Suh is an extremely talented surgeon, the leading expert in this type of surgery, and did an absolutely remarkable job. I was very worried about scarring, but as I said, I can barely even notice the scars now.
Dr. Suh and his team were extremely caring and supportive throughout the whole process. The nurses at Mount Sinai were the kindest I've ever experienced in a hospital. I am truly amazed by the outcome of this surgery and would highly recommend this type of surgery to anyone looking to avoid scarring on the neck. Thanks again to Dr. Suh and his team! They truly work wonders, and I will be forever grateful!

I recently had surgery with Dr. Suh. He's an excellent surgeon and treats his patients kindly and respectfully...
S. R. – Beyond Blessed
I feel beyond blessed for the treatment and experience I have received through my thyroid diagnosis and surgery. My surgeon, Dr. Hyunsuk Suh, has shown compassion, attentiveness, and expertise at each step of the way. Every staff member I encountered treated me with respect and courtesy...
Elle E. – Incredibly Talented
Dr. Suh is such an incredibly talented surgeon. I have never experienced anything that compares to his patience and bedside manner. Even though his IQ is off-the-charts genius status, he finds a relatable way to describe and explain complex medical concepts, and he makes you feel like answering your questions is his priority. I've never had a physician provide their cell phone number and let me know I could call with any other questions. Now, let's get to the actual procedure! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't experienced it for myself. I had my surgery in December, and 4 months later, there is only the slightest (maybe 4mm) area that looks a little darker than the surrounding skin under my left underarm... which Dr. Suh masterfully hid in a natural fold of my arm. There is no visible scar around either of my nipples!
...
I don't know why anyone would choose a traditional/conventional thyroid surgery if they are a candidate for the scarless surgery! If I could give Dr. Suh and the staff more than 5 stars, I would!
Thyroid Cancer – "If you read one review..."
If you are going to read one review about Dr. Suh, I hope you read this one. Before speaking to Dr. Suh, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer near my home in southeast Florida. I found out about Dr. Suh's scarless surgery technique and read all about his extensive experience. Within five minutes of completing the online forms, I received a phone call to schedule a consultation. After the consultation, I was convinced that Dr. Suh was the best surgeon to perform the surgery I needed. Little did I know that when having my pre-op appointment, he found a much more extensive progression than my previous doctors suspected. Upon arriving at the hospital, my first exam was with an ultrasound technician who spent an hour carefully examining my thyroid and lymph nodes. This was followed up with a CT scan because Dr. Suh wanted to be sure that nothing was previously missed. Dr. Suh recognized that the imaging I had prior to speaking with him was not enough to understand the extent of the cancer. The extra imaging found a large mass in my chest that was previously missed completely by my hometown imaging center! Dr. Suh had the experience to know how and what to look for. I am convinced that this careful approach saved my life. Dr. Suh (and I) spent seven hours in surgery, where he carefully and completely removed all the cancer in my thyroid, lymph nodes, and chest. While I understand that there can be no 100% guarantee that nothing was missed, I feel confident that no other surgeon would have taken the care and time or had the expertise and patience that Dr. Suh has. I am so very happy that I chose NOT to stay local near my home and to travel to Tampa to become Dr. Suh's patient.
I am extremely grateful to Dr. Suh and his whole team, as well as the staff at the hospital. Dr. Shah (the anesthesiologist), Rob (the nurse anesthetist), Meredith (the nurse practitioner), Eileen (the nurse), and all of the nurses and nursing assistants who cared for me were all so wonderful. Dr. Suh is such a warm, kind, calm, and compassionate doctor. During the surgery, he sent word of his progress to my mother (who traveled with me) every hour. He called me before and after the surgery to check on me and gave me his cell number to directly contact him. (What other doctor does this?) He even called me a few days later after I flew home. If you are diagnosed with something like I had, Dr. Suh is your doctor. He and his staff let me know every option I had at every stage, kept me informed of every finding and step in the process. There were shuttles to take us to/from the airport, hotel, and hospital, and there was a delivery service for medications. It was all very well planned and easy. Although Tampa is in my home state, I would have traveled from anywhere. I feel that Dr. Suh is the best in the world at what he does. If you read his testimonials, you will see that people from all over the world travel to see him. I have lived in many places and have seen different doctors. I have never met anyone that is even remotely as caring and compassionate as Dr. Suh.
Anonymous – Highly Experienced
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Suh. He is highly experienced, has a great bedside manner, and is just a very warm and caring doctor.
Denise D. – Amazing Doctor
Dr. Suh is an amazing doctor and his team; they know how to make their patients feel they are in good hands. He went above and beyond to make sure I was recuperating well. He is one of a kind of doctor and I wish other doctors would be like him. I'm so blessed to be his patient. Thank you, Dr. Suh.
Crystal P. – Skilled and Kind
Skilled, kind, and great bedside manner. I cannot rave about Dr. Suh more! He made a scary situation feel manageable and gave me confidence in the outcome. I was back to work within a few days, eating and drinking as normal. The scarless procedure was remarkable; I was left with little scars. Highly recommend him for his skill and kindness.
Colleen – 100% Recommendation for Scarless
He removed my thyroid cancer in April of 2021. He was kind, competent, and it was the best team and surgical experience I have ever had to date. I one hundred percent recommend Suh's scarless surgery.
Family Review – Grateful for Thyroid Surgery
Dr. Suh recently operated on our mom's thyroid cancer using robotic surgery techniques. We want to express how grateful we are for Dr. Suh's expertise and compassion both in surgery and out. Knowing that our mom was truly in the best of hands for the type of care she needed was comforting to both her and us as we waited to hear from her after her procedure was over. Dr. Suh is not only an excellent doctor in his craft, but he also knows how to professionally speak to patients and answer any questions they may have. "Compassion is what drives me," is what he told our mom, and there is no better reason to work in medicine than that. We fully believe that he saved our mom's life, and that without his surgical expertise, she would not have seen results as incredible as the ones she saw post-operation. Dr. Suh, we are eternally grateful for your compassionate, life-saving work. Thank you for what you did for our mom, our family, and for all that you do.
Chelsi B. – "We Wanted the very Best"
We wanted the very best and we found it in Dr. Suh. In March 2023, I was diagnosed with a large nodule on my left thyroid; at the time, the diagnosis was undetermined for cancer. When we first went down the path of trying to educate ourselves while seeking out the best possible care, we were referred to Dr. Suh by a former patient of his. It didn’t take us long to know he was the exact expert we were looking for. Within a day of applying to become a patient, his office called me to get the ball rolling, and within a couple of days, I had a conference call with Dr. Suh himself. I can’t even express how rare this is, as we were told it would be a minimum of 6-8 weeks before we could see any other professional. There are few words that would adequately describe Dr. Suh. Not only is he an incredible doctor and surgeon, but he truly cares about his patients, and that comes through in the time he makes for you to explain and answer questions. My surgery went well, and thanks to his expertise, I was able to maintain my lymph nodes and right thyroid.
Tali K. – Embodiment of Professionalism
From the first consultation call to my quick recovery, Dr. Suh was the embodiment of professionalism and compassion. He thoroughly discussed my condition and eased my fears with his warm demeanor and expert guidance. The surgery was smooth, and the follow-up care was attentive. Simply put, Dr. Suh is more than a highly skilled surgeon—he's a compassionate healer. If you're facing thyroid issues, don't look any further. Highly recommended.
