What is a General Consultation?

A general consultation at AE is a thorough evaluation where our expert team assesses your overall endocrine health. This session is designed to gather detailed and relevant medical history, perform a physical exam, and conduct imaging studies. It's the first step in our collaborative approach to your healthcare, where we start to build a relationship and establish trust.

What Can You Expect?

Your consultation visit will be composed of vitals, a comprehensive review of your symptoms, medical history, and prior exams/studies, followed by a physical exam and an expert neck ultrasound exam. Depending on the findings, a fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy may be performed. This is also an opportunity for you to express any concerns or ask questions about your health and treatment options. Based on your diagnosis, medical and surgical treatments may be offered. Appropriate blood tests will be performed. Additional diagnostic tests may be ordered. Our goal is to ensure that you leave the consultation with a clear understanding of the next steps and feel supported in your health journey.

Digital Consultations

Understanding the need for flexibility in healthcare, AE offers digital consultations as an alternative to in-person visits. These are conducted via secure video conferencing platforms, allowing you to consult with our specialists from the comfort of your home. Digital consultations follow the same structure as in-person visits, with a limited physical exam, ensuring you receive the same level of comprehensive care and attention. Any necessary imaging studies, diagnostic tests, and procedures will be ordered and coordinated locally. All the results will be reviewed once completed and discussed.

Is a Referral Needed?

While a referral is not always necessary to schedule a general consultation at AE, it may be required by your insurance provider for coverage purposes. We recommend checking with your insurance company beforehand to understand your policy's requirements.

Pre-Consultation Exams and Diagnostics

Before your consultation, it may be beneficial to have certain exams and diagnostic tests completed for a meaningful consultation. For thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal diseases, certain hormonal blood tests and imaging studies like ultrasounds or CT scans can help establish the diagnosis. Not all patients will need these tests prior to the first consultation; the necessity for such diagnostics will be determined based on your initial discussion with our doctor, who will guide you through any required pre-consultation preparations.
